Keep more of what you earn.Work like yourself.

I built an agency on three things – remote work, your own brand, better pay. Then I found the one platform that could take all three further than I could on my own. If you’re a good agent paying for an office you don’t use and a logo that isn’t yours, let’s have a relaxed chat.

  • NASDAQ listed: EXPI
  • No franchise fee. No office rent.
  • Your brand stays yours
  • Remote, but not alone

Sound familiar?

I hear versions of these every week. I’ve said most of them myself.

  • The office was fine. Until it wasn’t.

You fitted in once. Somewhere along the way it changed, and now you hear “no” more than “give it a go”.

  • Fees you can’t quite account for.

Franchise fees, desk fees, office overheads. For years I watched good money disappear into things that served neither me nor my clients.

  • It’s you they come to. Not the banner.

Your clients call you. Your reviews are about you. Yet a big slice of every deal goes to a brand you’ll never own.

  • Working alone isn’t working remotely.

The first one is lonely. The second, done right, is the best way to run a real estate business I’ve found.

The eXp model

What you actually get.

I’ll give you the real numbers on the phone. Here’s the shape of it.

  • A path to 100% commission

A split until you cap, then it’s all yours. The first of the group who came across with me has already got there.

  • Revenue share

Ongoing income from the people you introduce, paid from the company’s side. Not out of their pockets.

  • Shares in the company

Stock in eXp World Holdings, the NASDAQ-listed parent. Salespeople owning a piece of the business they work in. I wanted this for years and couldn’t build it alone.

  • Your own brand

Keep the name you’ve built, or build the one you’ve always wanted. Nobody here needs you to wear their logo.

  • No office. No franchise fee.

Work from home, from the car, from the beach if the reception’s good. The money saved is where the better pay comes from.

  • The engine room

Listings, marketing, contracts, compliance, payroll. We’re a real estate agency, not a tech company, and the admin team is the best I’ve worked with.

  • Real get-togethers

A winter masterclass in Christchurch, regional catch-ups, an Auckland get-together with the international crew. Remote work, but not isolated.

  • A global network

Tens of thousands of agents worldwide for referrals and ideas, and a company that went from nothing to top three in South Africa in five years.

Revenue share and stock awards are subject to eXp Realty’s programme terms. Nothing here is a promise of income. That part is on you, and I’ll be straight with you about it.

Is this you?

This isn’t for everyone. I’ve said that since day one.

Maybe one agent in a hundred. If a few of these sound like you, you might be the one.

  • You already know it’s you the clients come to, not the banner.
  • You’re producing, and you’d like to keep more of it.
  • You’d rather work from home and see people on purpose.
  • You want support without a manager hovering.
  • You feel disconnected where you are, and you can’t quite say why.
  • You’ve heard about eXp, and you can’t unsee it.

A letter from Matt

I was pitching against eXp. Then I joined them.

Hi there,

A couple of years ago I suited up and turned up at the Pullman lobby to pitch Independent Agent, the agency I’d built, to an agent I’d found on LinkedIn. Her branding was great. A lot of own-brands aren’t. She brought along some backup, and I did a pretty good job. But I couldn’t get anywhere near the deal she was already on with some outfit called eXp.

There have only been a handful of times in my career that I’ve been pitched back. That was one of them. I drove home deflated, confused, and making calls to create a few wins to cover the one I’d just missed.

That should have been the end of it. Instead, against my nature, I was booking flights to Miami to look at this company for myself. I went in with the walls up. Immersive environments are persuasive and I knew it. What I found was leadership that was humble and genuine. And agent after agent who had used the platform to build their own brand, or a large team, on their own terms. I left with mixed feelings and one thing I couldn’t unsee: my team would be better off there than they were with me.

Three things I got right. Three I couldn’t.

When I founded Independent Agent I had three principles. Remote working. Own branding. Better pay. We nailed all three. By late 2024 there were fifty licences under the agency and we’d sold $229 million of property in a year. Not bad for a business that started on a hospital notepad with one agent.

But there were things I wanted and couldn’t figure out on my own. A genuine path to 100% commission. A way for salespeople to own a share of the business they work in. Ongoing income for the people who bring good people in. It took me about a year of talking, thinking and a few sleepless nights to get it all together. At the end of 2025 I merged Independent Agent with eXp and took on heading eXp Realty in New Zealand.

I won’t pretend the change was simple. My identity was tied up in “founder and owner”, and it took me a few months to work out where I fit inside a very large, very distributed, NASDAQ-listed company. I got there. Sometimes the only way is through. And the remarkable thing is how much stayed the same. The people who came across kept their brands. The ones who liked ours kept that too.

Right now, it’s earlier.

What’s changed is the ceiling. The first of the group who came with me has already reached 100% commission, and there are more close behind. In South Africa, eXp went from a standing start to a top-three agency by volume in five years. They started the same year I started Independent Agent. The refrain you hear over there is “I wish I’d got on board earlier.” Right now, here, it is earlier.

I’m not saying a new way of working will work for everyone. I’ve met plenty of people who need an office and a big-name brand, and I think that’s great too. There’s room for all of us. But if you’re disconnected from where you are, and your identity doesn’t match what you’re doing, it’s worth taking a moment to work out what’s actually causing that. I did. It was the best thing I’ve done for my business in years.

If you’d like a relaxed chat about whether this is right for you, get in touch. No pitch deck. No hard sell. I’ll show you the numbers and tell you honestly if I think it’s a fit. A short catch-up with me might be the highest-returning thirty minutes of your year.

Why join under me

I’m not a machine. I’m a bloke who’s done it.

Some sponsors hand you software. What you get with me is someone who built an agency from one agent to fifty licences, merged it with eXp, and now runs the country for them. You get me on the phone. You get Kim’s engine room, the best admin team I’ve worked with. You get the Thursday email, which a couple of thousand agents read. And you get events where people actually turn up.

  • A straight answer, every time. Even when it’s not the one you were hoping for.
  • Onboarding that doesn’t leave you floundering with your own signage at midnight.
  • Back-to-basics accountability sessions, if you want them. Metrics on the table.
  • A model that pays better than any office-based one, because the extra money has to come from somewhere.

From the team

In their words.

Making the move

Switching is simpler than you think.

  1. A relaxed chat

Thirty minutes, on the phone or over a coffee. I’ll show you the numbers and we’ll work out if it’s a fit.

  2. Your plan

We map the move: your brand, your listings, your timing. Nothing happens until you’re ready.

  3. The engine room takes over

Licensing, supervision, systems and admin get sorted so you can keep selling while it happens.

Straight answers

The questions I get asked, answered the way I’d answer them on the phone.

What happens to my current listings?

We work that out in your plan. Agencies handle it differently, and some are better about it than others. I’ll tell you honestly how it tends to go, and we won’t move until the timing is right for you.

Is there a franchise fee or a desk fee?

No franchise fee, and no desk, because there’s no office. There are costs. I’ll show you every one of them on the call rather than bury them in a footnote.

Do I have to recruit to benefit?

No. Most people who join me sell real estate, and that’s it. Revenue share is there if you want to grow a team or introduce people. It’s a bonus, not the job.

Will I be on my own?

No. Remote work, but not alone. You’ll have admin, supervision, compliance and a team that actually meets up. I used to underestimate how much the in-person stuff matters. I don’t any more.

I’m not sold on the whole cloud thing.

Fair enough. I was sceptical too, and I flew to Miami to be convinced. Come to one of our get-togethers and judge the people, not the pitch.

What if it doesn’t work out?

Then it doesn’t. Our way of working suits some people at some times and not at others. I’ve had agents leave for an office and come back a year later. There are no hard feelings in that.

A relaxed chat. That’s it.

Thirty minutes on the phone or over a coffee. I’ll show you the real numbers and tell you honestly if I think it’s a fit.
